The purpose of this document is to provide content-specific examples of how to structure educator-level and/or systems-level coaching as a mechanism to ensure ongoing professional learning to support tiered intervention. This document provides examples of coaching supports, models, and functions within the context of tiered intervention (e.g., RtI, PBIS, MTSS) and data-based decision making (e.g., data-based individualization [DBI]) for educators who already have foundational knowledge and/or experience with coaching.

In Module 8 of the Intensive Intervention in Mathematics Course Content we highlight the necessity for implementing evidence-based practices with fidelity. We also explain how to make adaptations to the instructional platform when students demonstrate inadequate progress. We finish this module by putting all the information learned across modules together with the intensive intervention framework.
Teams are a vital part of an effective multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) across both academics and behavior as well as special education. Making connections across the across the various teams used in MTSS and special education can be challenging. This resource from NCII and the PBIS Center, provides information about how DBI can support IEP implementation and provides a table with key considerations for teams working across the MTSS system.
In this video, Dr. Jade Wexler, Assistant Professor of Special Education at the University of Maryland, College Park discusses research and implementation challenges for implementing interventions to support students academically and behaviorally within incarcerated settings.
NCII, through a collaboration with the University of Connecticut, developed a set of course modules focused on developing educators’ skills in using explicit instruction. These course modules are designed to support faculty and professional development providers with instructing pre-service and in-service educators who are developing and/or refining their implementation of explicit instruction.
This webinar reviews keys recommendations and lessons learned to help school and district leaders establish the conditions needed for educators to successfully implement data-based individualization (DBI) for students with the most intensive needs
Texas's Intensive Intervention Implementation Story Through the partnership between NCII and the Texas Education Agency’s Office of Special Populations (OSP), OSP implemented DBI in two pilot schools, hosted a year-long community of practice for district administrators, and partnered with their multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) network to build modules to sustain DBI implementation. Through those modules, Texas will continue to train regional, district, and educators on the DBI process. View the video below to learn more about DBI implementation in Texas.
Within a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), intensive intervention, also known as Tier 3, is designed to support students with the most severe and persistent learning and/or behavior difficulties. This document highlights some common misconceptions about intensive academic and behavior interventions that experts from the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and NCII have observed in supporting the implementation of intensive intervention within the context of MTSS.
Colorado's Intensive Intervention Implementation Story Since 2017, NCII and Colorado have partnered to build: (a) the knowledge and skills of state staff, (b) awareness about data-based individualization (DBI) through webinars and conference presentations, and (c) mechanisms to ensure sustainable DBI implementation. An effective and efficient data system is essential for successful implementation of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). However, prior to selecting an appropriate system, schools and districts must identify what its staff and community need and what resources the district or school has to support an MTSS data system. This two-step tool can help teams to consider both what their needs are and to evaluate available tools against those needs. Step 1 can help your team systematically identify and document your MTSS data system needs and current context and step 2 focuses on selecting and evaluating a data system for conducting screening and progress monitoring within a tiered system of support based on the identified needs and context from step 1
