This training module, Using the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity Within the Data-Based Individualization Process: A Reading Example, introduces the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity and describes how it supports the DBI process by helping provide explicit guidance on how to select and evaluate validated reading intervention programs to best meet students’ needs and intensify or adapt those interventions when students or groups of students do not adequately respond. This module is a companion to Using the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity to Select, Design, and Intensify Intervention with a specific focus on reading. At the end of the training participants will be able to:

In this webinar, Dr. Sarah Powell an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin highlights freely available tools and resources that can help educators consider a scope and sequence for math skills, assessment and intervention practices, instructional delivery, concepts and procedures for whole and rational numbers, intensification considerations, and more. The webinar reviews the content available from the Intensive Intervention Math Course Content. The course content consists of eight modules covering a range of math related topics. Each module includes video lessons, activities, knowledge checks, practice-based opportunities, coaching materials and other resources.
The What Works Clearinghouse has released a new practice guide focused on reading interventions for students in fourth through ninth grade. This guide includes four evidence-based and practical recommendations that were compiled by a panel of national experts. The recommendations include: Build decoding skill so students can read complex multisyllabic words. Provide purposeful fluency-building activities to help students read effortlessly. Routinely use a set of comprehension-building practices to help students make sense of the text. Provide students with opportunities to practice making sense of stretch or challenging text that will expose them to complex ideas and information.
Teachers often note that students struggle with the transition between core instruction and intervention in mathematics. Thus, the purpose of these curriculum crosswalks is to identify points of alignment and misalignment between commonly used mathematics intervention and core instructional materials, with a particular focus on mathematics practice standards and vocabulary. We offer recommendations for improving alignment to help students more successfully participate in math instruction across settings. This guide is a set of strategies and key practices with the ultimate goal of supporting students with the most intensive behavioral needs, their families, and educators in their transitions back to school during and following the global pandemic in a manner that prioritizes their health and safety, social and emotional needs, and behavioral and academic growth.
In this article, Dr. Jennifer Ledford shares information about single-case design research and how it relates to intensive intervention as well as resources from the Council for Exceptional Children Division for Research (CEC DR).
In Module 3 of the Intensive Intervention in Mathematics Course Content we emphasize the necessity for using evidence-based interventions or strategies as the starting point of instruction within intensive intervention. In this module, educators will learn about: (1) The umbrella term of evidence-based practices and different types of evidence-based practices; (2) Where to locate evidence-based practices; (3) How to design the instructional platform for use within intensive intervention.
In this video, Dr. Jade Wexler, Assistant Professor of Special Education at the University of Maryland, College Park discusses research and implementation challenges for implementing interventions to support students academically and behaviorally within incarcerated settings.
