The first module in the Intensive Intervention Math Course Content focuses on the mathematics content necessary to include within intensive intervention. This includes matching decisions about instruction and assessment to the mathematics content.
NCII, through a collaboration with the University of Connecticut, developed a set of course modules focused on developing educators’ skills in using explicit instruction. These course modules are designed to support faculty and professional development providers with instructing pre-service and in-service educators who are developing and/or refining their implementation of explicit instruction.

This module is intended to help educators and administrators to dive deeper into the steps of the data-based individualization (DBI) process for individualizing and intensifying interventions.
NCII was excited to host the inaugural Intensive Intervention Institute: Building Knowledge and Capacity for Faculty, State, and District Leaders on June 27-28, 2023. The two-day in person Intensive Intervention Institute aimed to build the knowledge and capacity of state and local leaders and teacher preparation faculty to support implementation of intensive intervention for students with severe and persistent learning and/or social, emotional, or behavioral needs using data-based individualization (DBI).
This module provides the foundational information for users interested in learning more about intensive intervention and the DBI process. The module defines intensive intervention and DBI, describes how intensive intervention fits within a tiered system such as MTSS, RTI, or PBIS, demonstrates how intensive intervention can provide a systemic process to deliver specialized instruction for students with disabilities, and provides two case examples to allow viewers to apply new knowledge.
