These lessons were developed as part of a National Center on Intensive Intervention Community of Practice with educators focused on implementing intervention virtually during Spring 2020 in response to COVID-19. Participating educators represented Colorado, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington. These activities were developed by practitioners and are intended to showcase example strategies that educators have used to deliver intervention in a virtual environment during the pandemic.
These videos illustrate how parents and grandparents can implement the NCII reading and mathematics sample lessons to provide additional practice.
This guide is a set of strategies and key practices with the ultimate goal of supporting students with the most intensive behavioral needs, their families, and educators in their transitions back to school during and following the global pandemic in a manner that prioritizes their health and safety, social and emotional needs, and behavioral and academic growth.
NCII, through a collaboration with the University of Connecticut, developed a set of course content focused on developing educators’ skills in designing and delivering intensive mathematics instruction. This content is designed to support faculty and professional development providers with instructing pre-service and in-service educators who are developing and/or refining their implementation of intensive mathematics intervention
Module 2 of the Intensive Intervention in Mathematics Course Content focuses on the assessment components of intensive intervention. We provide an overview of assessments before diving into instruction in order to stress the importance that intensive intervention cannot occur without adequate assessments in place.
This module discusses how to define, measure and monitor behavior. By the end of the module you should be able to: Select an appropriate target behavior Write an operational definition for a target behavior Identify relevant dimensions of behavior Choose a measurement system based on relevant dimensions of behavior Use graphing conventions to create meaningful visual displays of data
This module identifies Tier II and Tier III interventions for students at risk and high risk for behavioral challenges. By the end of this module you should be able to: Describe the decision-making process to indicate Tier II is appropriate Identify critical features of Tier II Discuss how to modify Tier II interventions to meet the needs of more students Highlight critical elements of a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) Choose a desired and replacement behavior Complete a Competing Pathway Model Begin to identify strategies to make the problem behavior irrelevant, inefficient, and ineffective
Intensive Intervention in Reading Course: Module 6 Overview This module provides strategies on how to adapt word reading instruction to improve instructional modeling, student practice, and approaches to giving feedback. This module is divided into three parts with an introduction. A 508 compliant version of the full PowerPoint presentation across all parts of the module, a version of the PowerPoint that includes all the animations, and a workbook is available below.
Intensive Intervention in Reading Course: Module 4 Overview This module provides an overview of data-based individualization (DBI), including using CBM measures, how to present level of performance and set student goals, and use data to make instructional decisions. This module is divided into five parts with an introduction and closing. A 508 compliant version of the full PowerPoint presentation across all parts of the module, a version of the PowerPoint that includes all the animations, and a workbook is available below.
