This report presents findings from an exploratory study of how five high-performing districts, which we refer to as NCII’s knowledge development sites, defined and implemented intensive intervention. The findings offer lessons that other schools and districts can use when planning for, implementing and working to sustain their own initiatives to provide intensive intervention for students with the most severe and persistent learning and/or behavioral needs.
In this video, Derrick Bushon, Director of Student Services for Swartz Creek Community Schools, discusses how his district took a systems approach to integrating DBI into schools.
This brief highlights how to use culturally and linguistically aligned strategies to support multilingual learners within an multi-tiered system of supports framework
This webinar focuses on ways educators and educational leaders can increase their capacity to develop skilled readers and writers, identify critical dimensions for designing intervention platforms as the foundation for effective instruction, and adapt interventions to increase the instructional intensity.
NCII developed this resource to help educators better understand the purpose of and considerations surrounding behavior screening in schools. Educators can use the information on this resource in conjunction with the Behavior Screening Tools Chart to (a) design a screening process for their school and (b) select or evaluate screening tools.
There are a variety of terms used interchangeably to define special education: specially-designed instruction, Tier 3 supports, and intensive intervention, but, do they mean the same thing? In this presentation, delivered at the 2017 OSEP Leadership Conference, state leaders of special education, David Sienko from the Rhode Island Department of Education and Glenna Gallo, from the Washington State Board of Education – alongside personnel from the National Center on Intensive Intervention – shared perspectives on how special education is defined to espouse commonalities across terminology and services to support students with disabilities. This webinar discusses the importance of family engagement and provides examples of ways to engage families to support students.
In this video, Dr. Rebecca Zumeta Edmonds, Co-Director of NCII discusses the differences between the terms “multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS)” and “Response to Intervention (RtI).”
How might MTSS affect what's measured on report cards, including academic and non-academic measures?
In this video, Dr. Rebecca Zumeta Edmonds, Co-Director of NCII, discusses ways that a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) can help educators consider what student report cards can measure beyond academic performance.
