NCII provides a series of reading lessons to support special education instructors, reading interventionists, and others working with students who struggle with reading. These lessons, adapted with permission from the Florida Center for Reading Research and Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk, address key reading and prereading skills and incorporate research-based instructional principles that can help intensify and individualize reading instruction.

In Module 8 of the Intensive Intervention in Mathematics Course Content we highlight the necessity for implementing evidence-based practices with fidelity. We also explain how to make adaptations to the instructional platform when students demonstrate inadequate progress. We finish this module by putting all the information learned across modules together with the intensive intervention framework.
Module 5 begins a series of modules on the topic of explicit instruction. Explicit instruction is about modeling and practicing to help students reach academic goals. Throughout the module, educators will learn how selecting an important objective and learning outcomes, designing structured instructional experiences, explaining directly, modeling the skills being taught and providing scaffolded practice to achieve mastery can be used within the DBI framework to support instruction.
In Module 7 of the Intensive Intervention in Mathematics Course Content we focus on rational number concepts and computation. In Modules 4 and 5, we emphasized important instructional delivery methods and strategies to include when providing instruction within intensive intervention. Modules 6 and 7 focus on important concepts and procedures for whole numbers (Module 6) and rational numbers (Module 7) teachers may find important for being able to explain mathematics to students.
This series of 22 videos provides brief instructional examples for supporting students who need intensive instruction in the area of fractions. Within college- and career-ready standards fractions are typically taught in Grades 3-5. Computation of fractions covers skills focused on building fractions from unit fractions—applying and extending operations of whole numbers. These videos may be used as these concepts are introduced, or with students in higher grade levels who continue to struggle with the concepts. Special education teachers, math interventionists, and others working with struggling students may find these videos helpful. In this video, Dr. Sharon Vaughn, Senior Advisor to the National Center on Intensive Intervention and the Executive Director of The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk, defines intervention platform.
In Module 6 of the Intensive Intervention in Mathematics Course Content we focus on whole number concepts and computation.
These videos illustrate how parents and grandparents can implement the NCII reading and mathematics sample lessons to provide additional practice.
Intensive Intervention in Reading Course: Module 6 Overview This module provides strategies on how to adapt word reading instruction to improve instructional modeling, student practice, and approaches to giving feedback. This module is divided into three parts with an introduction. A 508 compliant version of the full PowerPoint presentation across all parts of the module, a version of the PowerPoint that includes all the animations, and a workbook is available below.
Module 6 is the second in a set of four course modules focused on explicit instruction. This module introduces the concept of supporting practices necessary for successful implementation of explicit instruction. The module introduces how to use effective methods to elicit frequent responses. Throughout the module, educators will learn how eliciting frequent responses support instruction within the DBI framework.
